Preventative Healthcare
- Exams: Pets under 8 years of age should be seen once a year. Pets over 8 years should be seen every 6 months.
- Vaccinations: puppy / kitten boosters following recommended schedule, then at 1 year your pet is vaccinated again. Yearly vaccinations are recommended if your pet visits dog parks, groomers, boarding or dog / cat shows or otherwise has significant risk of exposure. We recommend vaccinations every 3 years if your pet is a homebody.
- Blood Tests: Baseline studies that are used for comparison as your pet ages
- Spay or Neuter: We recommend spaying or neutering at 6-8 months of age. Animal shelter statistics show that almost half the puppies born end up homeless or deemed not adoptable. If that is not reason enough to spay then consider this: Spaying decreases uterine infections and breast cancer. Spaying before their first heat cycle eliminates the possibility of ovarian cancer and reduces the chances of breast cancer to nearly zero. Neutering prevents testicular cancer and decreases prostate problems.
- Dental Exam & Routine Teeth Cleaning: At 3 years of age and annually thereafter. Pets with severe periodontal disease may need to have their teeth cleaned every 6 months.
- Heartworm Test: Medication can only be taken after your pet has a negative heartworm test.
- Fecal test: Checks for parasites.
- Good diet and exercise program
- Safe Environment
- LOTS OF HUGS & LOVE
